This area is very affordable with an overall cost of living is 17% below national averages. In Dallas the median apartment rent is about $650 per month. The climate in this area is moderate with hot summer and warm winters. The temperature rarely drops below 45 degrees. There are many institutions of higher learning including Southern Methodist University, Paul Quinn, and the University of Texas at Dallas, as well as a host of other colleges and universities.

The downtown district features the West End historic District with its collection of 19th century warehouses which have been converted into unique shops and restaurants.
