Florida has more than 1350 miles of coastline and is one of the biggest states in America. Yet most of the population is situated in the urban areas while the rest live in small rural communities along the coasts. However, because of its popularity and nightlife many people gravitate to Miami, with its sophisticated nightclubs, restaurants and miles of sandy beaches. It is a very modern city with a supply of apartments. Be prepared to spend between $500-$600 for a very small apartment. If you want to live high on the hog, so to speak, then be prepared to shell out $1500-$2000 for an apartment with a few more amenities.

Jacksonville is home to a very busy seaport and financial and insurance industries. It has one of the lowest cost of living rates in the country being nearly 9% below the national average. Florida rental apartments in this city are almost as affordable as in Tallahassee. Money Magazine routinely mentions Jacksonville as one of the top ten best places to live.

Orlando's lifeblood is tourism with more than 35 million tourists passing through every year. Florida rental apartments start at $400-$500 per month and can top off at about $2000 per month for downtown townhouses and trendy lofts. Locals concern themselves with the downtown farmer's market on the weekends, the Orlando Philharmonic and the Orlando Magic in season. They leave the more than 95 theme parks and attractions to the tourists.

Bear in mind that much of the employment is tourist related, so jobs offered may be part time rather than full time if you live in the Orlando area. It is also important to prepare for your search by investigating the neighborhoods of each city to determine which best fits your lifestyle and budget. And if after narrowing down your choices to the top two or three, make a personal visit to actually see what it is you may be getting yourself into. Look at the life in the neighborhoods, the transportation, the shopping and diversity, before making your final decision.
