Phoenix is the perfect environment for the nature lover or outdoors person with more than 325 sunny days a year. If you like professional sports then you'll love the Phoenix Suns and Mercury basketball teams, or the Arizona Cardinals football team or the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. In addition there are a number of local collegiate teams to give you even more bang for the sports buck.

The overall cost of living in Phoenix is about 13% below the national average making it one of the more affordable places to live in America. Arizona State personal income tax adds to that comfort by being one of the lowest in the nation. There is a huge selection of available apartments and most of them are very affordable. One thing that you will have to remember is that unlike other metropolitan areas, the rents outside of the city are more than the inside of the city. The average rent for a city apartment is $650 per month, while in nearby Tempe it is closer to $750. In Scottsdale a one bedroom apartment will run you about $840 per month. One exception to the rule is Glendale where the average apartment goes for $635 per month.

If you're looking for a job while apartment hunting you might try the high tech manufacturing industry. This industry makes semiconductors, electronic equipment and other products for the aerospace industry. The service industry and tourism are also on the rise as is retail and health care. Construction is booming all over Arizona as well as in Phoenix. Downtown Phoenix is a very good place to live. In addition to the number of rental units being built, the city is installing a light rail mass transit system to answer the need for public transportation. The western and southern parts of the city offer lower income options, as do the suburbs of Avondale, Chandler, Gilbert, and Glendale.

Phoenix is also becoming known for its huge planned retiement communities catering to senior citizens. These communities offer houses, condos and rental units, located at Sun City and Leisure World, outside city limits.
