Located just 60 miles to the east of Los Angeles, Riverside's proximity to Hollywood has made it a common choice as a filming location with many movies using the historic Mansion Inn as a setting. The city has an average cost of living compared to other cities, being more expensive by 6 percent.

The city has a vacancy rate of 4.6 percent and the median rent for a two bedroom apartment is $1078/month. Most areas have relatively similar pricing, with a low rent of $843 in the Eastside neighborhood and a high of $1225 in Mission Grove. Including these two locations, there are many different rental neighborhoods within the city and current annexation plans will include many unincorporated communities that will offer more options to the potential Riverside renter. The low vacancy rate indicates that the rental pricing should stay stable as supply and demand have remained equal. The city is split closely between renters (41 percent) and owners (54 percent).

All rental property types are available in the city and terms of rental are similar to many other locations. Lease options are standard in Riverside, with most contracts having a duration of 6 months to 1 year. At time of signing most renters will need to pay both the first and last month's rent. In addition, most apartment complexes require a security deposit equal to 1 month's rent due at the onset of the renting period. Being near to Los Angeles, Riverside may be a good option for renters that would like to be close to the many attractions of the city but cannot afford the expensive rental rates.
