Yet, many tenants are curious as to what is the exact responsibility of the landlord when it comes to the apartment rental. It is a good idea for the tenant to know the responsibilities of the landlord when it comes to an apartment rental. This is very important information for the tenant to be aware of when it comes to renting any apartment.

Some of the thing a landlord is responsible for when it comes to rental property are listed below:

  1. The maintenance of the rental property. This could include the appliances, in the event they break down, if they are owned by the landlord. The water, if it is well water, in many cases the apartment rentals will have city water. Also, included would be heating and air pump or whatever way is used to keep the tenant comfortable.
  2. The property itself, of course. Such as the roofing of the apartment, the flooring and basically anything that is part of the property. This is the apartment structure and anything that needs fixing when it comes to this area is left up to the landlord to take care of.
  3. In most cases, the landscaping of the property. In most instances it is up to the landlord to take care of the landscaping, but the maintenance is normally left up to the tenant. So, the yard being mowed would most likely be the responsibility of the tenant.

These are just a few areas that the landlord is responsible for. There are ultimately many more things that the landlord must provide upkeep for, but this are some of the most common and most important things that a landlord is responsible for when it comes to your apartment.

So, if there is any question of what the landlord may or may not be responsible for, you can refer to the lease. It is most likely listed there and if it isn’t you may want to speak directly to the landlord. This is a great way to get any and all issues solved prior to them getting out of hand. Also, be sure you always have the contact information of the landlord because this will come in extremely handy in many situations.
